Murder suspect – baby shaken to death: parents in custody

Date:

After a three-month-old baby died a few days ago at the Vienna General Hospital, the parents suspected of murder have now been convicted. After being taken to the hospital, doctors diagnosed shaken baby syndrome, and several of the little boy’s bones were also broken.

The reasons for detention were the risk of conspiracy and the risk of committing a crime, court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn said. The Vienna public prosecutor’s office is investigating the parents on suspicion of murder.

Parents did not comment on the allegations
As Salzborn explained, both the 29-year-old man and the woman, who was three years younger than him, did not provide any information to the judge about the accusation against them of causing fatal injuries to their son. The pre-trial detention order, against which the mother’s legal representative has not filed a complaint – the father was not represented by a lawyer – is legally in force until February 26.

The baby died on Tuesday from his serious injuries. A 26-year-old resident of Serbia and her 29-year-old partner brought the child to the clinic in Vienna-Ottakring. Severe shaking trauma and several broken bones were diagnosed – the doctors then alerted the police.

After the boy was taken to the general hospital, he died from his serious injuries. The parents were eventually arrested Friday and another two-year-old child was placed in the care of crisis foster parents.
