It was a very stupid joke: boys who were still in the carnival mood threw a firecracker into a rest-break toilet – but there was a 16-year-old boy there. His father was able to arrest the suspected teenagers and hand them over to the police. His son was injured.
The three boys, aged 17 and 18, were at the Westautobahn rest area near Schörfling on Monday evening and had continued the party in one of the youth houses after a carnival parade. At the rest area they wanted to buy snacks and drinks from the vending machine there.
Fireworks were set off in the toilet
One of the boys, an 18-year-old from Regau, came up with the fatal idea: he suddenly lit a firecracker and threw it into the men’s toilet of the rest area. There was a 16-year-old from Tulln (Lower Austria) there at the time who was traveling with his family. The 16-year-old’s father noticed the bang and saw several people running away.
Father arrested the perpetrators
He was able to grab one of the youths, a 17-year-old, and hold him until police arrived. The 18-year-old firecracker thrower then turned himself in to the police. The 16-year-old victim complained of explosion trauma. However, he and his family were able to continue the journey. The 18-year-old was released on charges of assault and property damage
