Everyone out of the house: On Monday, emergency services evacuated an apartment building in Altmünster after a fire broke out in a room on the ground floor. Nine people, including five children, were taken to hospitals by the rescue team with suspected smoke poisoning.
On Monday at 2:15 p.m., four fire brigades were called to Altmünster: fire in a three-storey apartment building. According to initial information, the flames probably started on the ground floor, where a mattress was burning. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.
However, nine people had to be taken to hospital as a result of the fire, including five children. They were suspected of smoke poisoning. They were distributed among the surrounding hospitals: three people each came to Gmunden, Vöcklabruck and Bad Ischl with the rescue.
“People were already outside”
“The people were already outside, we escorted an elderly lady out from the top floor,” reports Christian Gruber, commander of the Altmünster volunteer fire brigade, after the operation, which fortunately did not go so wildly, according to him.
The Florianis evacuated the building for safety reasons. “We went through the house with CO knives,” says Gruber. After about two hours, the operation, which involved four fire brigades, was largely completed.
