Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarricformer CEO of BBVA and current president of Caixabank, testified in the National High Court that did not intervene in the closing of CENYTthe business group of Jose Manuel Villarejoand has assumed that it was Francisco González, the then president of BBVA, who made the decision to go to the commissioner.
The Trampa report for which Goirigolzarri testified is one of the first alleged illegal jobs Villarejo and his companies allegedly did for BBVA, which would have involved obtaining information about Sacyr’s attempted acquisition of a significant interest in the bank between 2004 and 2005.
According to legal sources consulted by Europa Press, the former CEO stated that he discovered that BBVA had hired an intelligence agency from a conversation he had with Angel Canoformer CEO of the bank with different responsibilities at the time, hierarchically under Goirigolzarri.
Caixabank’s president has said Cano explained to him that an intelligence agency had been hired, though he doesn’t remember naming CENYT or Villarejo in connection with the Sacyr issue. According to his testimony, he became angry because he had been involved with Sacyr’s alleged offensive and he saw it as disloyal to him that he found out afterwards that the services of an intelligence agency had been contracted for this purpose.
When asked by the parties who could have given the order, he replied that not he, who was “number 2” at the time, would have been the only person with the capacity to do so “number 1”, which in this way to Gonzalez.
