An avalanche occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the Blaseck near Admont in Styria. A ski tourer was partially buried. A mountain rescuer who happened to pass by is fiercely critical.
Around 10 a.m. a group of winter sports enthusiasts left for a ski trip to the Blaseck. At the summit slope the group separated, while a 64-year-old Viennese woman continued at a greater distance from the rest of the people.

Around 1 p.m. a patch of snow came loose on the summit slope. The avalanche swept the 64-year-old away and buried the winter sports enthusiast up to her waist, but she was unharmed – according to a police release Thursday morning.
Mountain rescuer Paul Sodamin was an eyewitness and, together with a friend, helped the buried victim out of the snow.
“Code of Honor in the Mountains”
The experienced alpinist criticizes the behavior of the tourers: “Two stood at the top of the summit and simply rode up the 40-degree steep slope, even though there was a large group of winter sports enthusiasts directly below – you just don’t do anything like that.” There is also a code of honor in the mountains: “But fewer and fewer people adhere to it.”
The expert is currently urging caution despite the relatively low avalanche warning level: “The wind has been strong in recent days and has transported a lot of snow, the lower layer is ice cold, so an avalanche like the one at Bubbelhoek could easily happen.”
