The war in which lives Ukraine was the most important topic to deal with Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macronduring the latter’s visit to the Asian country.
At the press conference after the game Emmanuel Macron has assured that the Chinese leader “knows he has the support of France to bring Russia to its senses and bring the parties to the negotiating table“.
The French president hopes Beijing will help broker negotiations for “a lasting peace that respects internationally recognized borders” and has made “respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” a precondition for that peace.
Macron wanted to emphasize that “a country has decided to violate the Charter of the United Nations” – referring to Russia – and warned that there can be no “stable security organization in Europe” while one of its countries is under occupation.
Xi Jinping, for his part, has stated that “China hopes for a political solution and negotiation”. He has assured that they are “ready to cooperate with France from a reasonable attitude, with the aim of avoiding a deterioration of the solution”.
The Chinese president added that he hopes that the parties involved in the conflict will do the same refrain from launching “attacks against the population citizen”. He has asked them to “protect the victims” and has expressed his opposition “to the use of chemical attacks or against nuclear installations”.
