Thousands of Volkswagen Group cars are stuck at US ports, according to a media report. Porsche, Bentley and Audi vehicles were seized.
The Financial Times reported this on Wednesday based on insiders. A Volkswagen supplier found a part in the cars that violated the law against forced labor.
According to the report, the German car company has postponed the delivery of the vehicles until the end of March to replace a key electronic component that came from western China. Volkswagen had no knowledge of the origin of the part until the supplier alerted the Germans to the problem. The part was purchased from an indirect supplier further down the supply chain.
According to the Financial Times, VW immediately informed US authorities after the source of the part became known. The US bans the import of products made using forced labor in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur region and other parts of China. According to the report, VW declined to comment on this.
