A flight from the American airline Delta recently had to return due to maggots in the luggage compartment. The animals came out of a bag of rotten fish and fell on the passengers. The unsavory incident took place on a flight between Amsterdam and Detroit.
The plane was over England when maggots fell from the overhead compartment after about an hour of flying. Passenger Philip Schotte said he was sitting right next to a woman on whom the maggots fell. “At one point I saw her wiping the maggots off her chair with a piece of paper. She was very scared.” The two then informed the cabin crew.

The crew then found the bag of rotten fish and wrapped it in plastic. Passengers were shocked and looked with the flashlights of their mobile phones to see if there were any maggots crawling around somewhere.
Rebook on the next flight
Due to the incident, the plane flew back to Amsterdam and the airline apologized to the passengers. The trip was “interrupted due to incorrectly packed hand luggage”. The plane was cleaned and people were rebooked on the next available flight.
