A scooter driver went on a wild chase with the Viennese police on Thursday evening. The 55-year-old drove through several red lights and raced through the city at speeds of up to 130 km/h. The escape only ended when he collided with a police car.
When police tried to stop the man during a traffic stop, he accelerated and drove away. Several radio patrols give chase. The 55-year-old raced through the 20th district to the Floridsdorfer Bridge, ignoring red lights, driving bans and other traffic rules.
At the Neue Donau metro station, the man crashed his scooter into a parked police car. Although he fell, he tried to continue his escape. He was arrested amid massive resistance.
The 55-year-old did not have a driver’s license and a small quantity of narcotics was found and seized from his possession. He was reported on suspicion of resisting state authority, endangering physical safety and various traffic violations. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the fall.
