Councilor biased? – The trial of Maddie’s suspect has been postponed

Date:

Day one in the trial of Christian B., the main suspect in the disappearance of Maddie McCann, lasted just nine minutes for other sex offenses (see video above). The case was subsequently adjourned to the regional court in Braunschweig (Germany).

Reason for this: Lawyer Friedrich Fülscher believes that one of the lay judges is biased. In 2019, she called online for the assassination of Brazilian ex-president Bolsonaro. “We do not tolerate calls for murder and manslaughter,” the prosecutor agreed to the request. The suspect himself appeared tense in the courtroom and made no comment.

Christian B. has long been a concern of the German legal system; he has a previous conviction for, among other things, sexual offenses against children and has served several prison sentences over the course of his life. Recently, the Braunschweig Regional Court sentenced him to a seven-year prison sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American tourist in Portugal, which he is currently serving.

Two years in solitary confinement
According to lawyer Friedrich Fülscher, Christian B. has been in solitary confinement for almost two years and the accusations and the great public interest are putting him under extreme psychological pressure. “I think you saw a very striking person,” the lawyer said of the suspect in court.

According to German researchers, B. regularly went to the Algarve in Portugal to do odd jobs there. He also broke into hotels and holiday resorts. He is also said to have committed sexual crimes. According to the indictment, the suspect raped three women and sexually assaulted two girls at a beach and playground. The crimes are said to have taken place between 2000 and 2017.

Not all victims identified
The prosecution sometimes bases itself on videos that B. recorded himself. Not all victims have been identified. In the case of Maddie McCann, who disappeared from a holiday apartment in 2007, he is even suspected of murder. Despite extensive searches and numerous appeals, the case was never solved and the British girl was never found.

The trial for other sexual offenses against the 47-year-old will continue next Friday – with a new lay judge.
