Police officers in Germany made an unusual discovery during a nighttime vehicle check. They seized 40 kilos of wild garlic tubers. The man is now being prosecuted for violating the German federal nature conservation law.
Police in Lower Saxony, Germany, were probably surprised when they found two plastic bags full of wild garlic bulbs in a man’s car in a walking parking lot.
No more personal use!
The 30-year-old Czech said he had traveled specially from Gelsenkirchen, about 200 kilometers away, to dig up the tubers in the forest area. These were for personal use, he assured.
Picking herbs and wild plants from non-protected areas is permitted in small quantities. The police stated in a press release that 40 kilograms were no longer for personal use. In this case it is assumed that there is a commercial background.
