Serious injuries – forestry worker hit in the face by steel cable

Date:

Because the fabric belt on the pulley of a timber conveyor belt tore, the steel cable hit the face with full force of a worker (31) from Micheldorf (Upper Austria). The rescue operation first took him to a nearby football field, from where the rescue helicopter took over the transport.

According to police, a 31-year-old was seriously injured on Sunday while trying to clear storm timber in Micheldorf. Together with a 35-year-old, the man wanted to transport loose tree trunks that had been uprooted by a storm.

Colleague was unharmed
The attachment to one of the trees came loose, after which a steel cable hit the 31-year-old in the face with full force. His colleague was also hit by the rope, but was unharmed.

The victim was taken by rescue efforts to a nearby football field and from there flown by rescue helicopter to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz. Both forestry workers were wearing protective clothing and hard hats at the time of the accident.
