According to data collected by EITB Media, the occupancy rate in the capitals will be slightly higher. In Bilbao, for example, that will be 90%.
According to data to which EITB Media has access, the Basque Autonomous Community expects an occupancy rate of 80% during the Easter holidays.
In the Hotels it will be 80%, slightly higher in the case of the capitals, for example in Bilbao they think it will be around 90%. Despite everything, they will not meet the pre-pandemic quota and in Easter week they will receive fewer visitors as the occupancy will drop to 40%.
Majority of visitors will be Spanish, but the foreign tourist is starting to mobilize again, by an average of 20%. The number of foreign visitors will be higher (25%) in Bilbao and coastal towns in both Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia.
The Rural houses of the CAV will also have an occupancy rate of 80%. So a slightly lower percentage than last year. In 2021 with the confinement it was difficult to leave the Basque Country, which is why many opted for rural accommodation. Rural tourism will experience the greatest decline in Bizkaia, as the establishments will not reach a 70% occupancy rate.
However, in Álava and Gipuzkoa it will exceed 80%. in Navarra, they also expect to be at 80%. In the Comunidad Foral, Easter week will also reduce the activity of rural houses, with an occupancy rate of about 30-40%.
On the other hand, according to data from Aparture, tourist apartments they will top the data for 2019. In the Basque Country, the occupancy rate will be on average 82%, but Donostia-San Sebastián will reach 88%, despite the most expensive prices: 247 euros per accommodation.
47% of the visitors who will stay in the apartments in the capital Gipuzkoa are foreigners. However, in Bilbao, Lekeitio, Zumaia, Getxo, Bermeo, Zarautz and Getaria they will make up 25% of the total.
Apparently the number of foreign visitors is recovering, but it will not reach pre-pandemic numbers.
Finally, according to AENA, the Louis . airport will manage 741 operations over Easter: 123 on Wednesday, another 123 on Thursday, 125 on Friday, 104 on Saturday, 118 on Sunday and 148 on Monday. In 2019, 869 flights were operated at Biscayan Airport.
