Two days after a passenger plane crashed in the Himalayas, emergency services rescued the last of the 22 dead. According to a Nepalese army spokesman, the bodies still at the accident site, about 4,000 meters high in the foothills of the Himalayas, will be taken to the capital Kathmandu. In addition to 16 Nepalese, there were four Indians and two Germans on board.
Air traffic control lost contact with the plane of the Nepalese airline Tara Air on Sunday morning. The plane with 19 passengers and three crew members was en route from Pokhara – a popular tourist destination about 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu – to Jomsom.
The Pokhara-Jomsom flight route is considered one of the most accident prone routes in Nepal. At least 74 people have died in five plane crashes along this route since 1997, according to the Nepali Times.
