Five days after the collapse at a construction site in Florence, the body of the last missing person has now been recovered. The dead man was a 56-year-old worker from Morocco. This brings the total of the accident to five deaths and three injuries.
An Italian, a Tunisian and three Moroccans were killed. The accident took place on Friday and the last body was discovered under one of the fallen pillars late on Tuesday. The three injured people are from Romania and their lives are not in danger.
Due to the accident, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni is planning a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday in which measures for increased safety in the workplace will be discussed. Illegal work on construction sites must be combated more actively, Rome said. “There should be no decline in workplace safety,” said Labor Minister Marina Calderone.
Four days ago, it was reported that a worker was still missing after the accident. Dog teams were used in the search. Rescuers reported that a large roof support beam had collapsed along with the attic floor. It was about the construction of a new supermarket (see video above).
