Operation on Schneeberg – man (50) swept away by avalanche: seriously injured

An alpinist was swept away by an avalanche on the Schneeberg (Lower Austria) last weekend. Emergency services were also called to a sighted avalanche on Hochkar with a buried person.

A 50-year-old man from the Wiener Neustadt district climbed through the Lahningries am Schneeberg, which is about 40 degrees steep, around noon on Saturday. This probably caused an avalanche of dry plates. The alpinist was swept away by the avalanche at an altitude of about 300 metres.

According to the state police, fortunately he was not buried, but an emergency medical team took the Lower Austrian with serious injuries to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital.

Use at Hochkar
The Göstling mountain rescue service was also warned of a sighted avalanche in the Großes Kar area on Hochkar. One person was buried. His companion was able to dig the victim out in time. The man was not injured in the avalanche.

The variant driver probably activated the snow plate himself. Eyewitnesses report that he was swept across the entire slope and eventually buried in the exit area of ​​the avalanche cone.
