Under the slogan “Borrokan ari gara – Let’s put an end to uncertainty”, the union has staged demonstrations in the four capitals of Hego Euskal Herria. In San Sebastián, Bilbao and Pamplona they leave at 11:30 am, in Vitoria-Gasteiz at 12:00 pm.
ELA met for May 1, Labor Day, demonstrations in the four capitals of Hego Euskal Herria against the 541,600 existing precarious jobs and against the rising cost of living.
At a press conference held this Monday in San Sebastian, Mitxel Lakuntza, general secretary of ELA, gave full details of the union’s activities for the day at a press conference held this Monday in San Sebastián. That is why he chose the motto Borrokan ari gara-Let’s end uncertainty
As he noted, “celebrating May Day claims a more egalitarian and supportive view of society” as well as an “urgent collective commitment to build another world, always against capitalism,” he added.
In the act, in which he was joined by Leire Txakartegic, the organization’s chief executive, have recalled that “in 2021 businesses will have more benefits than ever, but governments are calling for wage increases not to be increased.” “They call it an income agreement,” Lakuntza emphasized. In this sense, he has emphasized that ELA will not sign an income pact so that the working class becomes poorer.
ELA has denounced that in Hego Euskal Herria more than 541,600 people have precarious jobs (407,300 in the CAV and 134,330 in Navarre) and women are the ones who suffer the most this reality. “Finishing these precarious jobs is the most important task of the union and the reality shows that the union struggle is the most effective way,” he said.
ELA will also focus its criticisms on the “housing speculation” and what it sees as the “big electricity tariff scam with the shameful energy companies”.
For example, it has organized four demonstrations in the different capitals of Euskadi and Navarra. In Saint Sebastian departs at 11:30 am from Alderdi Eder, in Bilbao at the same hour of the Sacred Heart, in Pamplona from the Plaza de la Cruz, also at 11:30 am, and in Vitoria-Gasteiz at noon of the White Virgin.
