Brawl in Feldbach – 17-year-old convicted of stabbing himself in the stomach

Date:

On Thursday, a 17-year-old was not legally convicted of attempted murder. He allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old with a dangerous knife in the stomach of Feldbach in eastern Styria. The attack was preceded by violent arguments between the youths.

A 17-year-old boy from Styria was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday: he allegedly attacked a colleague with a knife in October 2023 – a stab went so deep that his intestines were hanging out, as a witness describes in the trial.

The reason was a violent scuffle on the school grounds
It all started when a 17-year-old boy spit in his 16-year-old friend’s face a few weeks earlier. He then responded with a punch. “Then we went behind the school,” said one of the witnesses. There the ‘fight’ continued. “And you all stood around and looked at it?” the judge asked, to which the witness replied in the affirmative. “Great,” said the judge. The 17-year-old was defeated in this argument and announced that “there will be repercussions,” one of the attendees recalled at the time.

Not legally sentenced to eight years in prison
For both of them the matter did not seem to be completely resolved and therefore another argument arose at a later date. A witness reported in court about the phone call he received at the time: “He said he had been stabbed,” said one of the boys. They found the injured man lying on the ground and covered in blood. “I pushed his intestines back in and closed the wound,” recalls a friend of the seriously injured man.

The suspect denied intent to kill and said it was just “a memory.” Witnesses also reported that the 17-year-old had used a lot of drugs. The jury decided 7-1 on attempted murder. The young man was sentenced to eight years in prison. The judgment is not final.
