Recently, a man from Salzburg stood in front of the Pfotenhilfe animal shelter with a box full of guinea pigs. He found them in the middle of a meadow in Fürstenbrunn – apparently they had been left there unscrupulously.
Pfotenhilfe recorded the quartet and discovered that they were four girls and that they even had bald spots due to an untreated skin fungus. The condition of the coat also suggests that they were kept indoors and would therefore have barely survived due to a lack of food and the current night temperatures.
Looking for clues
Clues are now being sought to identify the perpetrator, as abandonment of animals can be punishable by up to two years in prison if they cannot survive in the wild. It would also be important to know how the animals were kept, whether there are any other abandoned animals and whether they may be pregnant.
