Too much cortisol – Amy Schumer: This is the basis of Cushing’s syndrome

American actress and comedian Amy Schumer has now responded to nasty comments about her ‘bloated’ face. The 42-year-old revealed that this was due to Cushing’s Syndrome, which she suffers from. Krone+ asked what is behind this rare disease and what serious consequences it can have.

Cushing’s syndrome is caused by high cortisol levels. The metabolic disease is very rare and patients often have to endure a long ordeal and a veritable marathon of doctors before they finally know what is wrong with them. However, if the disease is left untreated, the consequences can be dramatic and often even lead to premature death.
