On Monday afternoon, an 80-year-old Bavarian caused an accident with his car for unknown reasons. He died as a result of serious injuries at the University Hospital of Salzburg.
The 80-year-old pensioner from the Berchtesgadener Land district drove from Golling on Lammertal Straße towards Abtenau. Next to him sat his 81-year-old wife.
At the so-called “Kuchlbach intersection” the vehicle ended up on the other side of the street – the reason is still unknown. He drove over a traffic island and later crashed into a tree.
Both occupants were trapped and had to be freed with hydraulic rescue equipment and flown by rescue helicopter to Salzburg or to the Cardinal Schwarzenberg Clinic. The Bavarian finally succumbed to his injuries on Thursday at the University Hospital of Salzburg.
