A 15-year-old stabbed an Orthodox Jew in the city of Zurich on Saturday evening. The Swiss police arrested the suspect on the spot, they announced on Sunday evening.
The victim’s injuries were initially life-threatening. The 50-year-old man had to be taken to hospital.
The background and course of events are unclear. The ongoing investigation by the Zurich cantonal police and the responsible youth prosecutor’s office would go in all directions and explicitly include the possibility of an anti-Semitic crime, it was said.
In a statement, the Swiss Association of Jewish Communities (SIG) said it was “deeply shocked that a member of the community became the victim of such an attack.” The security organizations of the Jewish community in Zurich and across the country had been informed, the SIG said.
