“Great concern” – Gaza: 15 children have already died of malnutrition

Date:

At least fifteen children have died from malnutrition and dehydration in the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip in recent days. This was announced by the health authority of the militant Palestinian organization Hamas. However, the UN complains about the catastrophic supply situation for the civilian population.

There are fears for the lives of six other children who are in intensive care suffering from malnutrition and diarrhea. Shortly before, the UN Security Council in New York had called for emergency aid in the Gaza war. “The parties were urged not to deprive civilians in the Gaza Strip of basic services and humanitarian support,” said a statement released on Saturday (local time).

“Exposed to acute food insecurity”
In their statement, council members expressed “grave concern” that Gaza’s more than two million residents could face “alarming levels of acute food insecurity.” The statement also called on Israel to keep border crossings open for humanitarian aid and to allow additional crossings to be opened.

Mass crowds cause deaths in aid convoys
The deaths of dozens of Palestinians during the planned aid distribution in the Gaza Strip on Thursday were caused by a crowd, according to the Israeli army. Contrary to what Hamas said, most of the deaths were not the result of shots fired by the Israeli army, a military spokesman said on Sunday.

On the contrary, most of the victims were crushed in the crowds from which Israeli soldiers were attacked. They then fired warning shots and shot individual looters who threatened the soldiers. This was the result of a preliminary investigation by the military, which was to be followed by further investigation by an independent commission.

UN complains about catastrophic supply situation
According to Palestinian authorities, more than 30,000 residents of the Gaza Strip have been killed since the start of the Gaza war. Large parts of the infrastructure for the 2.3 million people in the densely populated coastal strip have been destroyed. The UN complains about the catastrophic supply situation for the civilian population.

Hamas terrorists and other extremist groups killed hundreds of people and kidnapped about 250 hostages in the Gaza Strip during the attack on southern Israel on October 7. According to Israeli estimates, there are still about 100 living hostages in the hands of Hamas.
