“Slaves” kidnapped – Israel accuses UNRWA of aiding kidnappings

Date:

The Israeli government has again presented recordings intended to prove that employees of the Palestinian aid organization UNRWA were involved in Hamas’ devastating attack on Israel. Israel’s UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan showed a video during his speech in New York on Monday claiming that an UNRWA employee was present in Israel on October 7. The military also released audio recordings that also include the voices of UNRWA personnel.

For example, the teacher at an UNRWA school allegedly said that he had captured a ‘slave’, army spokesman Daniel Hagari said at a press conference on Monday evening. According to Israeli information, the man used the Arabic word “Sabaija” in the conversation. The term refers to women and children who are personally owned by a Muslim, Hagari said. But it also means ‘servant’ and ‘slave’.

Similar language to IS
In the language of the terrorist militia IS, which had temporarily ruled large parts of Syria and Iraq, women – especially from the Yazidi minority – were sexually abused with this term. In addition, another terrorist can be heard on an audio recording describing a woman in his power as a “noble mare.” However, the authenticity of the recordings has not yet been independently verified.

UN report on rapes by Hamas
Meanwhile, a United Nations report considers sexual violence likely in the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7. There is “reasonable reason to believe” that rapes and gang rapes took place in at least three locations, said the paper, which was authored by UN representative Pramila Patten after a visit to Israel.

Patten said he had received “clear and convincing information” that hostages were being raped by Hamas. This information also led to the belief that “such violence continues against those still detained.” The UN representative spent several days in Israel in February. There she spoke with survivors, witnesses and security forces. The UN representative also met with Israelis released from Hamas hostage custody. The United Nations was previously accused of responding too slowly to Israel’s allegations of rape and sexual violence during the brutal October 7 attack.

Israel recalled UN ambassadors for consultations
Due to the “attempt to silence information about the mass rapes committed by Hamas and its allies,” Israel’s UN ambassador has been summoned to his home country for consultations. Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused UN Secretary General António Guterres of failing to convene the Security Council to discuss the report and declare Hamas a terrorist organization. UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said in return that Guterres “fully supported” Patten’s work during her visit to Israel. “The Secretary-General has done nothing whatsoever to keep the report ‘secret’.” In fact, the report was presented publicly.
