A man (62) from Innsbruck is attacked by several young people at a bus stop. The police are investigating. The victim, who injured his foot, tells the ‘Krone’ about the increasing aggressiveness in public spaces and about fears for the future.
Gerhard Klausner has lived in Innsbruck for decades. He has seen many changes in the city. Much good. “But unfortunately there are also negative developments,” says the 62-year-old. When Klausner talks about negative developments, he is mainly referring to increasing aggressiveness in public spaces, decreasing inhibitions and a lack of respect: “Nowadays you have to expect immediate insults, threats or even physical violence.”
Angry looks were followed by punches
The latter happened to the Innsbruck resident a few days ago. As reported, the 62-year-old was attacked by youths near the Pauluskirche bus stop in Reichenau last Wednesday. “Four or five guys stood together. You couldn’t get past them. When I asked them to step aside, it started,” says Klausner. “‘Oida, that’s crazy,’ someone said to me. I saw the anger in the boys’ eyes.”
Then there were skirmishes. “The boys were ready for a riot,” is the bitter conclusion of the 62-year-old. During the attack, Klausner fell onto the tram tracks. “It would be unimaginable if a tram had just arrived,” the Innsbruck resident shudders at the idea.
“Will people soon have to be afraid all the time?”
The 62-year-old suffered a foot injury. The boys ran away. The police are investigating. The incident left the Innsbruck resident deeply shocked: “I am not afraid, I can defend myself. But I’m not getting any younger. I can’t handle a physical attack anymore. Most people aren’t. Will they have to be constantly afraid when they leave the house?”
