The Tyrolean state government issued a shooting order for a high-risk wolf in Fieberbrunn (Kitzbühel district) on Wednesday, after a cunning deer was found in a residential area last weekend.
The shooting regulations come into effect at midnight and apply for a period of eight weeks. According to the state of Tyrol, the affected hunters have already been informed.
Wolf photographed in settlement area
The deer’s carcass was discovered this weekend in the immediate vicinity of a residential building in Fieberbrunn. “Because of the crack pattern, there is a concrete suspicion of a wolf. In addition, a wolf was spotted and photographed twice in the settlement area in the municipality of Fieberbrunn. This means that the legal requirements for shooting a high-risk wolf are met,” it continues.
Wolf from the Italian population?
In January this year, a wolf from the Italian population was already detected in Söll and Kirchdorf using red deer carcasses. It is not known whether this is the same animal.
In 2023, a total of at least 26 different wolves were genetically confirmed in Tyrol. Compared to 2022, this corresponds to an increase of one third, the country concludes.
