Greenpeace expert: – “Sinking tanker is a ticking time bomb”

Date:

An environmental disaster is looming in the middle of the Red Sea: the British freighter ‘Rubymar’, the target of a missile attack by the Yemeni Houthi militias, could be an ecological time bomb. Greenpeace sounds the alarm and calls for urgent expert access to the wreckage to prevent a catastrophe.

After a missile attack by the Yemeni Houthi militia on the British freighter ‘Rubymar’ in the Red Sea, Greenpeace is calling for action. Experts must be given urgent access to the wreckage so that appropriate rescue measures can be taken quickly.

“The tanker ‘Rubymar’ is a ticking eco-time bomb, engine oil is already flowing into the Red Sea,” says Ursula Bittner, biodiversity expert at Greenpeace, extremely concerned. But the bigger danger is that the sinking ship breaks in two and 21,000 tons of fertilizer flow into the sea.

“This not only throws the fragile marine ecosystem out of balance, but also poisons the food supply of turtles, sharks and dolphins,” the expert said.
