After closing the gas tap to the Netherlands, Poland, Bulgaria and Finland, the Russian gas giant Gazprom the gas supply has already been “completely” cut off Bee businesses Oersted, the most important energy group in Denmark, and to Shell Energy Europe, which supplies gas to: Germany, for refusing to pay for fuel in rublesas specified by the company.
Gazprom already said on Tuesday it would cut gas supplies to these two companies and this Wednesday confirmed the total suspension of supplies in two statements released on its Telegram account.
In the case of Oersted, the Russian gas company supplied the company with 1.97 billion cubic meters in 2021, which represents about two-thirds of Denmark’s total gas consumption.
The contract between Gapzom Export and Shell for the supply of gas to Germany provided for the supply of up to 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Despite this supply route being closed, Gazprom is not the only company supplying gas to Denmark and Germany, and according to the energy agencies of both countries, the gas is supplied via other routes.
Russian terms
Since April 1, Russia has been demanding from all foreign customers from countries deemed “unfriendly” by the sanctions imposed as a result of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine, i.e. all members of the European Union (EU), among others, to pay for Gazprom’s gas in rubles, which some companies have refused.
The plan devised by Russian President Vladimir Putin to circumvent Western sanctions requires “unfriendly” countries to open two special accounts at Gazprombank.
In one, they have to enter the money for the received Russian gas in euros or dollars, which is then converted into rubles on the Moscow stock exchange and transferred to the second account in the Russian national currency.
