The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapiahas been agreed with representatives of the Basque agricultural unions “short-term shock measures” who needs it immediately primary sector.
Tapia had convened last Friday the agricultural unions EHNE, ENBA and UAGA at the headquarters of the NEIKER technology center, in the town of Derio in Biscay, to analyze the proposals made individually by these organizations at the decalogue presented by the executive, in order to can do actions that guarantee agricultural and livestock activities.
Following the meeting, the Basque government made public a document highlighting cooperation with the agricultural organizations UAGA, EHNE Bizkaia, EHNE Gipuzkoa, ENBA Bizkaia and ENBA Gipuzkoa, “with the aim of implementing short-term shock measures that respond to immediate needs of the sector, while laying the foundation for its sustainable development in the medium and long term.”
The text recognizes “the importance of the primary sector for the Basque economy, its role in the conservation of natural heritage and its contribution to the fight against climate change” and establishes a commitment to “joint work and mutual support”.
Through a set consensual commitmentspresents the report “a strategy aimed at strengthen the sectorpromoting innovation and improving competitiveness”.
She further states a calendar quarterly monitoring to evaluate the progress of the measures taken and adjust the strategies if necessary.
With this initiative, the Basque government and sectoral actors seek to “ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for the primary sector, which is crucial for the economic development and sustainability of Euskadi,” they stressed.
Among the commitments it was agreed to “request the competent authorities to do so”. adjustment of community rules to regional realities, in search of a more flexible and reducing bureaucracy in the management of aid, and to ensure that productions from third countries comply with the same rules that apply to community productions”.
Efforts will also be made to facilitate the aid processingensure effective implementation of the Food Chain Act in Euskadi, promote sustainable use of agricultural land to ensure long-term productivity and raise awareness of the crucial role of agriculture and livestock farming in ecological balance and biodiversity.
It has also been decided to submit the application exclusion of wolves of the LESPRE catalog (List of wild species under a special protection regime) and promoting “the attractiveness” of the agricultural sector for new generations and female leadership.
The agreement also provides for measures of support for the vineyard by 2024, and promoting technological innovation and sustainable practices to improve productivity and reduce environmental impacts.
