The case remains horrifying: an 18-year-old German is said to have stabbed his girlfriend to death in Reutte in Tyrol on Monday evening and then threw himself off the 114 meter high “Highline 179” suspension bridge. The investigation of the State Criminal Investigation Service of Tyrol is ongoing. Further investigations are pending. So far there are no signs of a history of violence.
The alleged murder followed by suicide is said to have been preceded by an argument during the drive from the Imst district, where the two lived, to Reutte. The young Tyrolean apparently wanted a divorce from the 18-year-old. Did that trigger a knee-jerk reaction in the German and ultimately drive him to this insane act?
According to Katja Tersch, head of the State Criminal Investigation Service of Tyrol, there are no further signs of a violent past. Surveys hadn’t given any indication of this, she told the APA. The police also had no prior knowledge.
“Violent Discharge of Violence in Affect”
A murder of a woman by the (ex-)partner is “just the tip of the iceberg”, most “violent relationship patterns” already exist beforehand, according to the Tyrolean women’s shelter manager Gabriele Plattner. In the present case, however, it looks more like a violent discharge of violence in the affect, Tersch reports. The head of the LKA emphasized that the investigations had not yet been completed, so there may still be indications of a history of violence.
Relationship with Tyrolean for about a year
Born in Bavaria, he has lived in neighboring Tyrol for twelve years. The former up-and-coming footballer and the enthusiastic amateur musician had been a couple for about a year. On Monday evening, the lives of the two came to a brutal end. A witness saw the 18-year-old fall from the “Highline 179”. Shortly afterwards, police found the young woman’s body in his car in the parking lot. According to the autopsy, she died of multiple knife wounds to her upper body. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found in the car.
