A coastal road on Lake Garda has been blocked after a massive rock fall. On Saturday night, several huge boulders fell on the road between Riva del Garda and Limone. Luckily no one was there at the time.
Only a few cars parked on the side of the road were hit and damaged by rocks. As a precaution, an adjacent home was evacuated.
Civil protection carried out a local inspection by helicopter on Saturday. The road was then temporarily closed. It is still unclear how long it will remain closed. Work on the road will start on Monday. A specialized company was commissioned to blast the rocks and clear the slope and roadway.
Landslides are not uncommon in the area
After heavy rainfall, landslides are not uncommon in the Lake Garda area. Geologists observe rock movements using engineering instruments.
