The 31-year-old who first tried to rape two young American tourists not far from Neuschwanstein Castle in June 2023 and then pushed them into the gorge was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday.
On Monday, the regional court in Kempten classified the crime of the man, also from the US, as murder, attempted murder and rape resulting in death. This means that the prison sentence will probably no longer be suspended after fifteen years.
Woman fell 50 meters into the abyss
The suspect admitted that he attacked the two friends on a hiking trail near the Marienbrücke in Schwangau in mid-June 2023 and then threw them into a ravine about 50 meters deep. A 21-year-old died in hospital after the attack and her companion, who was a year older, was seriously injured.
Girlfriend wanted to help, husband pushed her into a ravine
The man had only met the women a few minutes earlier; the two victims and the perpetrator had traveled separately for a holiday trip to the Allgäu. He attacked the 21-year-old woman to rape her. Her boyfriend intervened and the man pushed the 22-year-old into the ravine. He then continued to assault the younger victim until he was surprised by a couple.
He let go of the woman and pushed her over the edge of the slope as well. The two women had to be rescued from the gorge by helicopter; the 22-year-old was already dead.
