A Ukrainian drone strike has set fire to a fuel depot in the western Russian city of Oryol, south of Moscow. In the Nizhny Novgorod region east of Moscow, a refinery of oil company Lukoil is on fire after a drone attack.
Emergency services would try to get the fire under control, regional governor Andrej Klitschkow said on Tuesday evening. “There were no casualties.” Work at the plant was temporarily halted due to an “incident,” Russia’s state news agency RIA reported, citing the oil company.
RIA Novosti, citing a representative of the emergency services, reported that a reservoir of petroleum products caught fire in Oryol. Oryol is located about 160 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
More drone attacks from Ukraine
According to Russian information, Ukraine also carried out further drone attacks on targets in Russia on Tuesday night. Drones dropped four explosives in Russia’s Belgorod border region, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said. No injuries were reported, but an electricity cable was damaged.
According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, air defense units have shot down a Ukrainian drone over the Russian capital Moscow. In the affected Ramensky district, there were no injuries or damage from falling debris, Sobyanin said on Telegram.
Drones continue to invade Russia
Since the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine more than two years ago, the Ukrainian armed forces have managed to penetrate deeper into Russian territory with their drones. Russia also uses numerous drones.
