The mission, described by Open Arms as ‘high complexity’, had been delayed by poor security conditions, security guarantees and clearance to depart from Israel.

The NGO boat Open arms has already left Cyprus to go to Gaza and bring 200 tons of food to alleviate the famine in the Gaza Strip.

The mission, described by Open Arms as ‘high complexity’, had been delayed by poor security conditions, security guarantees and clearance to depart from Israel.

The ship will carry 200 tons of food, such as flour, rice and cans of tuna, to Gaza, which will be distributed on the ground by World Central Kitchen.

The route from Cyprus to Gaza is approximately 210 nautical miles (about 388 kilometers), a distance that takes about 25 hours under normal conditions. The Open Arms’ journey is expected to take approximately 50 hours.

“We trust that this will be the first of many missions that will succeed in alleviating the humanitarian emergency the population is experiencing,” the officials said.
