What sounds like a scene from an action movie became reality in Villach: drug investigators discovered a secret bunker in the basement of a major dealer’s house. In addition to weapons, ammunition and narcotics, grenades were also seized.
The police managed to deal a powerful blow to the drug scene in Villach! The agents have been tracking down several people since September 2023, and things finally clicked in early March. The police may have broken up a drug gang with this.
“Nine suspects were arrested during seven searches in the urban area of Villach,” officials said. These are six men and three women between the ages of 29 and 53 with Austrian, Bosnian, Slovenian and Greek nationality. And the police found more than enough:
A secret door in the basement led to the drug bunker
But the officers would find even more drugs. After investigators noticed an exhaust pipe in the yard of the single-family home of a 39-year-old Austrian, they made an unusual discovery in the man’s basement. “The suspect was able to discover a secret bunker in the basement, which was built very professionally in 2011,” they describe. The bunker was only accessible via a wooden wall that served as a ‘secret door’. This door could only be opened with a magnet.
“Behind this door was a room of about 25 square meters. With this, the investigators have secured a highly professional cultivation facility for cannabis plants.” The room also appeared to have been a kind of storage space for weapons, ammunition and hand grenade detonators. The police have a suspicion: “According to the current state of the investigation, it can be assumed that this room was specially built more than ten years ago for the purpose of growing cannabis.”
“Very professional equipment”
It is still unclear how many drugs were produced there. During the search, officers seized 39 cannabis plants in an inner tent measuring approximately 3×3 meters, as well as 80 jam jars filled with cannabis. Everything went extremely professionally: “The room has a water and electricity connection and was equipped with very professional equipment.”
Since then, investigators have interrogated all the suspects – some have confessed – and for four this ended in Klagenfurt prison. The rest is reported in general.
