Get off the plane or train and get into a taxi: you can earn good money from tourists, especially in the winter season. The fact that things are not always right in the taxi industry recently became clear during a special promotion at Innsbruck airport and central station.
As part of a targeted “sharp action” by police, finance and the Innsbruck city council, taxi drivers at travel hotspots were closely monitored last Saturday. A total of 119 people were checked for immigration and financial offenses by police and under the Occasional Traffic Act.
The balance of the police and the city magistrate is as follows:
- Two taxi drivers used drugs. Their driver’s license was immediately confiscated.
- A total of 15 violations of various administrative criminal laws were reported during the taxi checks.
- The city magistrate also ordered eleven Violations of the Tyrolean operating regulations for passenger transport were reported.
Illegal work, discrepancies with cash registers
The financial police also had a lot to do. Two taxi drivers who were not correctly registered for social security were arrested. Another driver received unemployment benefits despite his taxi work.
In addition, discrepancies were found in five cases in connection with the cash register and an enforceable tax arrears of 4,500 euros.
