Weighing a whopping 20.4 grams and almost the size of a table tennis ball, a giant blueberry from Australia has been entered into the Guinness Book of Records – as the heaviest of its kind in the world. emerged last November from a Costa Berries farm in Corindi, New South Wales, Australia, Australian media reported on Friday, citing the company.
The previous world record was 16.2 grams and was set in 2020, when an equally large blueberry specimen grew in Western Australia. By comparison, a blueberry normally weighs only between 1 and 3.5 grams. The new record holder was kept in an industrial freezer while Guinness World Records auditors scrutinized the new contender. Brad Hocking of Costa Berries told Australia’s ABC that his team was pleased that the record had now been officially confirmed after twelve weeks.
According to Costa, blueberries are too tasty for smoothies
The blueberry is part of the new Eterna variety, which the company developed because consumers in Australia demanded larger berries. In the meantime, the employees are thinking about what they are going to do with the world record berries. “We all look at it every now and then and smile,” Hocking said. “A smoothie probably wouldn’t be the right fate for her.”
