Horrible incident in Australia: During a balloon flight, a participant simply fell out of the basket and died.
The accident apparently occurred on Monday morning shortly after takeoff over a Melbourne suburb, Australia’s Guardian reported, citing emergency services. The body was discovered in a residential area. Police cordoned off the area and spoke to the other occupants of the hot air balloon and eyewitnesses to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
The aviation safety authority has also opened an investigation. The balloon later landed safely in a park. According to media reports, the pilot and the shocked passengers received psychological support. “Hot air balloon baskets are designed for safety, especially to prevent passengers from accidentally falling out,” the Australian Balloon Association said, offering condolences to the man’s family.
