The discovery of skeletons above a hiking trail on Lake Grundlsee caused a stir. There was speculation that the dead man could be suspected double murderer Friedrich Felzmann. Now DNA research confirms that this is not the case. They are the remains of a missing Viennese.
At the beginning of March, a forest ranger and his dog found a completely skeletal corpse in Grundlsee (Liezen district). Next to the bones lay a rusty hunting rifle. The identity of the dead man could not immediately be determined.
Wrong weapon, wrong shoe size
Speculation soon arose that it could be Friedrich Felzmann, Stiwol’s double murderer. But several facts quickly dispelled this hope. Not only was it the wrong weapon – Felzmann shot his neighbors with a small caliber rifle – the shoe size was also wrong. Felzmann wore size 43, one size larger than the body.
Available since summer 2021
And last but not least: the DNA didn’t match either. A comparison showed on Tuesday that the remains were of a Viennese who had been reported missing since the summer of 2021. The then 52-year-old was missing by an old acquaintance who was looking for the former photographer. The Viennese man, whose apartment in Messie indicates psychological problems, may have committed suicide.
