German Chancellor: – “Putin sacrifices Russian soldiers for power madness”

Date:

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz accused Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday of not only inflicting destruction and death on Ukraine, but also sacrificing many Russian soldiers because of his “madness for power.”

Putin is sacrificing them so that at some point the history books will say he has conquered “ten centimeters more territory,” Scholz said at an SPD event. The Kremlin leader had broken the principle that had prevailed in Europe for decades that borders would no longer be moved by force. That is why we will support Ukraine for as long as it is necessary, the German Chancellor said.

‘Putin speculates on our divisions’
The Russian ruler speculates that the West will not be able to maintain its support for Ukraine. That’s wrong, Scholz said. First of all, it is important “that we send a clear signal to the Russian president, who has organized a kind of re-election. So: he should know that his speculation that we will not be able to maintain support for Ukraine for as long as necessary is wrong.”

Putin should not count on “that we will not be able to mobilize sufficient support in the long term. “Then a situation arises where he realizes that it is necessary to make a fair peace, which is not a dictated peace, possible for Ukraine – and first of all by withdrawing troops,” Scholz said.

Putin wants to further expand the role of the army
Meanwhile, Putin announced after his re-election on Tuesday that he would further strengthen the military and security bodies. “Of course, strengthening the defense capabilities and security of the Russian state today – especially today – is particularly important,” he said at a meeting with parliamentary faction leaders, according to state news agency TASS.
