Human error: cell phone triggered alarm after helicopter crash

The accident was due to human error; technology was called in for help. After a private helicopter crashed at the airport in Suben, the watch on the pilot’s wrist sounded the alarm. Fortunately, the accident went smoothly.

The accident took place on Wednesday afternoon at the airport in Suben. A 68-year-old from Mondsee performed take-off, gliding and landing exercises there. His 60-year-old wife was also in the helicopter. According to the pilot, an operating error occurred during the maneuvers, which caused the helicopter to rotate once around its own axis at a height of approximately three meters, tilt to the left and hit the ground with the rotor blades. The helicopter then crashed.

Couple injured
The impact caused the emergency detection on the 60-year-old’s smartphone to make an emergency call. Then the rescue chain was set in motion. The two were injured and taken to Schärding Hospital.
