Serious illness – “Reichsburger” dies shortly before the trial begins

Date:

A defendant from the alleged ‘Reichsburgers’ group surrounding Henry XIII. Prince Reuss died before the trial began. According to media reports, the man was recently seriously ill.

“Mr. Norbert G. recently died in the clinic,” a spokeswoman for the Oberlandesgericht Frankfurt, where the man’s trial would soon begin, told the German news agency. G. was arrested on December 7, 2022 and had been spared since early January 2024.

27 suspects charged
Together with nine other suspects, the Federal Public Prosecution Service charged the then 72-year-old Norbert G. in Frankfurt in December last year. They are accused, among other things, of membership or support of a terrorist organization and of preparing a treasonous undertaking.

The background is a large-scale anti-terrorist attack in December 2022 in several German states and abroad. In total, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office has charged 27 suspects, including before the higher regional courts in Munich and Stuttgart.

Leaders stand trial in Frankfurt
In Frankfurt, the suspected leaders are mainly accused, in Stuttgart the so-called military wing and in Munich the other suspected members. The higher regional courts in Munich and Frankfurt have not yet decided whether to open the proceedings. The trial starts on April 29 in Stuttgart.

The so-called Reichsbürger in Germany claim that the German Empire (1871–1945) continues to exist, hence their name. They do not recognize the Federal Republic and its laws.
