The deadline is ending – payment is due today – will Trump raise money?

Date:

According to his lawyers, former US President Donald Trump is unable to pay bail for the approximately $464 million (€427 million) fine imposed on him for financial fraud. The deadline is today…

If Trump doesn’t raise the amount by Monday, New York Attorney General Letitia James may begin seizing the first properties. However, the question is whether this will happen. Trump has asked an appeals court to suspend payment of the fine or initially accept a payment guarantee of only $100 million.

Posting the bail is also a condition for the court’s consideration of the Trump lawyers’ appeal request and the suspension of the sentence pending a decision on the appeal.

Bail “practically impossible”
However, Trump’s lawyers now explained that paying the required bail was a “practical impossibility.” And this despite Trump claiming on his online platform Truth Social that he had the money.

As part of their failed efforts, he and the other defendants contacted 30 insurance companies to raise the amount. However, insurers have rules that prohibit them from accepting real estate as collateral.

Ex-president: “Witch hunt!”
Trump called the case a “witch hunt” in a statement Monday evening. He called the punishment “unconstitutional, un-American, unprecedented and virtually impossible” for “any company, including one as successful as mine.”

Four additional criminal charges
Trump, who is expected to face incumbent Joe Biden in November’s presidential election after winning the Republican primaries, also faces four criminal charges.
