Weighing 200 kg: the largest snake in the world is dead

Date:

It wasn’t until February of this year that a video of her became a hit on the Internet, and now probably the largest snake in the world has been found dead in Brazil – her death apparently had no natural cause.

“We were filming this enormous green anaconda while it was sunbathing on the river bank, when it suddenly but carefully decided to slide into the water,” says Dutch biologist and professor Freek Vonk, who shared his encounter with the eight meter long reptile. video that was clicked millions of times worldwide.

“I had my mask and a small oxygen tank with me, so I immediately decided to follow her. What happened next was almost unbelievable. I could get so close to her that all I had to do was stretch out my arm and I could have touched her head.”

Snake didn’t feel disturbed at all, people certainly did
“She was four times my size and her head was as big as mine. “It must have weighed over 200 kilograms, maybe even much more,” said the visibly impressed researcher.

As he goes on to explain, the snake would not have felt disturbed by his presence at all; he was not disturbed in any way by the people next to him. However, another human individual may have sensed the animal.

Animal “found dead in river”
As Vonk announced on his Instagram page, the snake is no longer alive. “It is with immense pain in my heart that I would like to inform you that the mighty large green anaconda with which I swam was found dead in the river this weekend,” Vonk wrote with two photos of the dead animal.

According to his information, the female named Ana Julia was found in the Bonito region of Brazil. “The investigation into the cause of death is still ongoing, and all possibilities are being considered,” but Vonk harbors a tragic suspicion.

Anacondas are often killed
Documentary maker Cristian Dimitrius also commented on the death of the snake via Instagram, which he recognized based on the pattern of the animal that he followed with his camera for more than ten years. It has even been measured once and, with a length of 6.45 meters, is the largest anaconda ever measured in the world. He wished the animal had died of natural causes, but pointed out that anacondas are killed regularly.

Both express the suspicion that the animal could have been shot. An investigation must now clarify the cause of Ana Julia’s death.
