Earlier, Russian Telegram channels reported that a Russian Su-35 fighter jet crashed near Sevastopol. Video footage of the incident is circulating on social media. The cause of this was initially not clear. According to unconfirmed reports, the plane could have been shot down by Russian air defense itself – it would not be the first time.

Russia annexed Crimea, where its Black Sea Fleet was always based, in 2014. Ukraine wants to regain control of the peninsula. Its forces have repeatedly attacked Russian targets in Crimea and the Russian fleet anchored there.
