Almost at the same time that the state of Tyrol warned in a broadcast on Holy Saturday about lighting Easter fires as a result of the Foehn storm, such an incident took place in the Zillertal. The fire brigade had to be called in to extinguish the forest fire.
Around 3:15 p.m. there was a fire in Stummerberg, Gattererberg area, which burned down approximately 60 square meters of forest area. According to previous findings, a 76-year-old resident wanted to build a so-called Easter fire and set fire to bushes and sawdust.
A gust of wind as a trigger
When a strong gust of wind suddenly hit the fire, a dike fire broke out with heavy smoke. That is why uninvolved witnesses called the fire brigade. The Stumm/Stummerberg volunteer fire brigade was finally able to extinguish the flames around 3:50 p.m.
No one was injured as a result of the incident. Three vehicles and 23 emergency services were deployed. It is still unclear whether the 76-year-old will suffer any consequences.
