Turning point: the army withdraws from Shifa hospital

Date:

About two weeks after the start of the military operation in the Shifa hospital in the city of Gaza, the Israeli army withdrew again on Monday evening. The military said the troops left the area after a “precise operational activity.”

According to the Civil Protection, which is controlled by the Islamist Hamas, about 300 bodies have been found in and around the hospital.

According to Israel, the Islamist terror organization Hamas had again set up combat and command positions in the vast area after the Israeli army stormed the hospital last November. Last weekend, the Israeli air force shelled a total of about 80 Hamas positions in the coastal strip of Gaza.

Extremists holed up in hospitals
The army’s operation against the extremists entrenched there also continued into Sunday evening at Shifa hospital in the city of Gaza, in the northern coastal strip. According to reports, people have been murdered in several buildings of the clinic and the army spoke of terrorists.

In a stairwell, soldiers chased and exchanged fire with armed and senior members of Hamas, killing them. The army also found hidden weapons in the maternity ward of the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip. Grenades, explosives and guns were found in cushions, ceilings and walls.

Much criticism of Israel’s actions
Israel accuses the Islamist Hamas of systematically misusing medical facilities for military purposes. Hamas rejects this. Given the dire humanitarian situation and the many civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip, there is a lot of international criticism of the actions of the Israeli army.
