Chilling action by a 14-year-old in Tyrol: he got into his mother’s car, then drove off the road and ended up in a river. Witnesses and the fire brigade quickly arrived on the scene. The 14-year-old had to be flown to the clinic in Innsbruck.
On Tuesday morning, the 14-year-old student made unauthorized use of his mother’s car. Around 11:30 am he drove along Sellrainer Straße from Kematen towards Sellrain. The 14-year-old, who was alone in the car, drove the car off the right side of the road. The vehicle only came to a stop approximately 150 meters further in the Melach.
Witnesses provided first aid
Uninvolved motorists immediately administered first aid and the young local resident was eventually rescued from the vehicle by members of the Gries fire brigade. After initial care was provided by the rescue helicopter team, the seriously injured student was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck. More details about how the accident happened are currently under police investigation.
In addition to the police, the Gries fire brigade with 15 men and four vehicles, a rescue vehicle and an emergency medical helicopter was also present.
