An unusual operation caused a major alarm in the Weinviertel: On Wednesday, a bus collided with an excavator at a construction site in Gänserndorf. When the fire brigade arrived, a picture of destruction emerged: the force of the impact lifted the construction machine, which weighed several tons, and threw it sideways into a trough. However, the worker escaped in horror.
Driver was lucky by accident
Because there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident, no injuries were reported. Fortunately, the driver was not trapped in the vehicle either; the backhoe literally cut into the side of the bus – just a few centimeters and the driver would have been in serious danger.
Using several winches from the fire trucks, the excavator, which was stuck in the bus, was put back on its wheels and parked safely at the side of the road. After cleaning the street, the fire brigade was able to move back in. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
