More than six million Germans will soon be able to look forward to more money in their wallets. An important election promise from Chancellor Olaf Scholz is being fulfilled, the minimum wage in Germany will increase to twelve euros from 1 October. In the future, mini-jobbers will be able to earn a little more without paying taxes and social security contributions. The Bundestag announced this on Friday.
According to the bill from Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD), the lower wage limit will be raised as of 1 October 2022. It is currently 9.82 euros and will increase to 10.45 euros on July 1 – that was already decided – reports the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Criticism of the employers’ association
In the run-up, there was a lot of criticism from employers’ association BDA. He had criticized the politicians for breaking the minimum wage promise that the wage limit was set by the specially created Minimum Wage Commission. By law, the commission may only become responsible again after the unplanned increase.

Labor Minister Hubertus Heil also announced a collective labor agreement for the federal government, the Süddeutsche continued. The minimum wage is only a lower limit, the federal government also wants more wages.
The limit for mini-jobs without taxes and contributions will also be raised: from 450 to 520 euros. However, due to the wave of inflation and price jumps, the debate also casts doubt on whether these measures are sufficient.
